The E51 is beautyful. It’s not my opinion, everybody said this, with few exceptions. Elegant, sightly, thin, styled phone, additionally we probably had the most beautyful, silver-black version. (The coffe brown is also …). The previous model was also longish, the designers kept this trend, but after all, i can say that they not just draw a cool form, either they made some improvements on the build-up of Symbian phones.
Let’s begin with the conspicuous things,i.e. the chromed border, that runs around the case, causing two things by that. On the one hand – because a normal people takes the phone at the side – it gives pleasent grip, the cold touch gives the feeling of good quality. On the other hand, this surface doesn’t look like to be damaged easily, so it will keep it’s shine even if it will be dropped sometimes. The silvery border entails a metal back, really not a common one because the lattice-like back pattern makes the E51’s ass really custom.
The quaintnesses can be noticed only at a closer look. surprising (but I wouldn’t say ”funny”), that a miniUSB connector can be find on the bottom of the phone again, maybe it’s high time for the Nokia to decide which way to go. Besides this, the charge connector is placed (yes, yes, this finnish model can’t either be charged on usb connection), and a 2.5mm jack connector. For this three inputs there are three accessories: USB cable, charger and a standard basic nokia headset.
On the left side of the phone not many extras are going to catch our attention, here is the hotkey of the voice recorder, and the infra port is hiding under it. The right side is more intresting, the volume controll buttons are here, but a third button got wedged in between them, this is to mute the microphone during talkin (Useful feature for the ones that covered it by their own hand), in default stance, if it is pushed longly, the voice calling starts. It would be practical but that little buttons is so deep in the, that’s why it is nearly impossible not just to find but also push for firstit without paying attention to it. If the back of the phone is removed, the microSD slot becomes visible. In opposite of my habit, I didn’t become so upset on this, because the mentioned part can easily be removed. The light sensor is somewhere above the display, it is invisible for the eye but it must be there because if i cover the bottom of the phone by my hand, the white button lightning turns on. An other hidden midget was palced here: a white led that flashes in case of events, at last, something that is very useful.
Now take a look at the buttons indeed. Instead of the enormous joystick – that became a copyright of the E50 – a classic D-pad is avalible for the navigation but not this is the most instresting. Instead of the well-known symbian buttons, a bit unsual figures can be found on the function buttons and call handling buttons: the famous symbian button was replaced with a little house, and three other hotkeys are here: one for the contacts, one for the clandar and one for the messages. The icon of the delete is not a simple C letter but an arrow pointing backwords and an X is placed on it, maybe it’s more unambiguous, but the C has nearly become that part of the standard language. The most spiffy is that the fuctions of the hotkeys mentioned above can be customized, different operations can be attached to short and long push too. It’s really great, innovative, practicle, useful, but there is a little pity: the buttons are so jam-packed, so it requires attention to push the one you wanted to .
