One would usually associate the Alcatel brand with basic and cheap models, although they sometimes make really promising models and not only for the entry-level segment. The once French, now Chinese company now seems to start up again, at least the Windows Mobile 6.1-based QWERTY slider below cannot be critized in terms of design or features. The 110 x 55 x 15.1 mm large (so rather compact) handset has a 528 MHz Qualcomm CPU, which is probably fast enough with 256 MB RAM and the same amount of ROM, mostly because the 3.2" touchscreen has a resolution of only 240 x 400 pixels. The handset weighs 124 grams and also features a GPS receiver, WLAN and stereo Bluetooth support, a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, a standard USB and 3.5 mm jack output. The only problem with Alcatel OT-S998W is that it's made exclusively for China Unicom.
