European network operators had a deadline today for decreasing roaming fees of text messages, but besides this the decrease of data and internet roaming fees is also planned. It is not very advised for the operators to decline such a request, as in such cases they should expect such a strict, law-controlled roaming fee that was used in the case of voice calls. Viviane Reding, European Commissioner for Information Society and Media, doesn't expect the telecommunication companies to agree with the decision that cuts back on their profits. Last week the European Commission has revealed their plans for decreasing mobile termination rates. Currently all member countries define these fees for themselves, which is expected to fall within the competence of the EU by 2011, thus providing completely uniform fees. Although 2011 is still far, the prices are going to decrease until then too. According to the plans of the European Commission the new regulation would result in a price decrease of up to 70%.
