Samsung Pixon 12: AM-OLED display and a 12 megapixel camera

The first phone with a 12 megapixel camera officially announced for Europe is Sony Ericsson's Idou (recently renamed to Satio), which is not launched before October. Pixon 12, recently revealed by Samsung, is the second phone with such a feature, announced with a delay of about four months, but due to its launch in June it will be available just as much earlier than the Japanese-Swedish handset.

The new, 12 megapixel edition, using the design of the 8 megapixel Pixon, is special not only because the camera's resolution, but the 28 mm wide-angle lens are also a rarity, these providing an ease of use in tight spaces as well. Another new feature of the handset is focus tracing, which means the camera can stay focused on an object even if that moves. Besides these we can of course use such functions as face- and blink detection, shooting on smile, extended dynamics range and the possibility to record videos at 720 x 480 pixels. The pictures and videos can be easily shared on popular social sites like Facebook, Picasa, Flickr, MySpace, Photobucket or Friendster.

The camera is not the only great feature of the handset, as it also sports a 3.1", 800 x 480 pixels large AM-OLED display, WLAN, GPS, stereo Bluetooth, HSDPA and HSUPA support, DivX and XviD playback, an RDS FM radio, Word-, Excel-, PowerPoint and PDF-viewer, TV-out and 150 MB of internal memory that can be expanded with a microSD card. The 108 x 53 x 13.8 mm large handset, weighing 120 grams, has a 1,000 mAh battery and it is set for launch this month.
