Nokia has announced in June that they want to acquire the remaining 48 percent of shares of Symbian, most of the shareholders accepting the deal back then, except Samsung. Until now the Finnish manufacturer could have owned only 91 percent of the shares, but finally Samsung has also decided to accept Nokia's offer and so the whole of Symbian can now be owned by Nokia. At the same time when the acquisition has been announced, the Symbian Foundation has been founded, having as an aim to create a united, open and free user interface. Symbian's acquisition is possible only with the approval from the European Union and this is expected to happen only at the beginning of next year.
