Palm has announced at CES in Las Vegas their new WebOS operating system and the first phone based on it. Palm Pré is no the thinnest handset on the market, but it is in fact quite compact, and it has all the features you would ever need. The handset sports a 3.1", 320 x 480 pixels large multi-touch display, which is exploited by the multi-tasking system. There are no details available yet of the handset's OMAP CPU, but it's sure that the gadget has 8 GB of internal memory, a sliding QWERTY keyboard, WLAN, GPS and stereo Bluetooth support, a 3 megapixel camera with a LED flash, 3.5 mm headset jack, microUSB connector and a changeable battery. The best feature of Pré os the user interface, which is as simple as it can be and easy to use. The phone's browser supports all kinds of contents and the operating system can recognize if an Outlook, Google and Facebook contact is the same person and links the information. The multi-layer calendar can display business, family, sport or friend events separately or together. Full navigation, email, MMS and business mailing (Microsoft Exchange) are a touch away, but office documents can be opened as well. Another new feature is the wireless charger (sold separately), which charges the phone in four hours after simply placing it on the charger. The 100.5 x 59.6 x 17 mm large Palm Pré, weighing 135 grams, is coming early 2009 exclusively to Sprint, but the HSDPA edition, coming in the second semester, will be available worldwide.
