The price of the SIM-free Apple iPhone 8GB is 599 dollars, while the 16 GB edition has a price-tag of $699 USD. US prices are usually net prices, so they don't contain the VAT. The unlocked handsets can be activated via iTunes. The reason for the decision is probably that they want to empty stocks, as the new model might be coming in June.
