Design and manufacturing problems can happen anywhere, some of these being a nuisance for users, while others can have serious consequences. Tim Colbourne, an Italian forum user has reported of such a case, his iPhone 3G has burst into flames after 3 hours of charging, due to the charger. Unfortunately this is not the first instance, as last year a Swedish iPhone has caught fire similarly, and after some delays Apple has changed the device. The reason for the accident is not yet known, but some kind of short-circuit could be guilty. As such errors might happen in the case of other devices as well, it is not advised to leave them unattended on a charger.
