Motorola continues its fall

Hirdetés

Currently it seems very much like Motorola has started an unstoppable fall. Recently Korean Samsung has taken the second place from them but now LG and Sony Ericsson also have a larger market share than the renowned American manufacturer. In 2008 Q2 Motorola has shipped about 22-23 million cell phones, during which period LG sold 28.1 million and Sony Ericsson sold 24 million handsets.

These numbers are a great indicator of not only Motorola but Sony Ericsson having diffifult times too. Samsung has the second place, with 48 million handsets sold they have a market share of 18 percent, meaning that they have got 1.8% stronger. Nokia is the incontestable leader, as with 120 million devices sold they have performed almost as good as the following four companies in total. Still, they can't be fully happy either, as with half a percent their market share has dropped to 40%.

The unambiguous loser of the last three months is Motorola, who had a market share of 9.6% during the last quarter, but now they only have 7.3 percent. The situation is even worse if we take into account that more than 40% of the handsets sold are the ODM models made by Compal Communications and Chi Mei Communication Systems (CMCS, while earlier the ratio of cheap handsets has been only about 25-30 percent. And this evidently means weaker financial results.
