Samsung Electronics has announced the release of a new Windows Mobile communicator i780, which was announced last fall. It has a candybar form factor and comes with a QWERTY-keyboard. It features comfortable GPS-navigation with an optical joystick and a 320x320 pixel touchscreen display. The joystick, being a compact optical mouse in fact, enables motion freedom for easier navigation and provides full access to all the functions, notes the manufacturer. The handset is a slim device, it is less than 13 mm thick.
Samsung i780 is designed for GSM/GPRS/EDGE and UMTS/HSDPA networks, equipped with a GPS-navigator, a 2-megapixel and a VGA camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR wireless adapters. Its media player supports AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, OGG, AMR, MPEG 4, H.263 and H.265 formats, and the microSD slot enhances storage opportunities of the communicator. The only complaint might be about the display, which has a diagonal of only 2.55" and its square shape might be a problem for a couple of applications. The handset with a size of 115.9 x 61.3 x 13.3 mm, weighing 120 grams, is already being shipped, so its expected to become internationally available in stores soon. Still, there's no word on the pricing, so far.
