MWC: nVidia HD video chip for mobiles

Hirdetés

We received a hint, that it's worth visiting the stand of nVidia, as they can show interesting things. It really was interesting, as the APX2500 chip was presented, which is made for mobile devices.
As a result of the developments a chip has been created, that can play high resolution movies without problems, even on the screen of a mobile device, or on any kind of television, with the help of the TV-out cable. We saw an example of the latter one at the stand and it was pretty impressive.

The exhibited demonstration device was produced by nVidia (or at least they made someone produce it for them), it won't be commercially available, although the touchscreen devices didn't look bad at all.
nVidia is also proud of their chip being able to help a usual device to play back music for 100 hours, or videos for 10 hours. We asked them about what they base these numbers on and a guy from the company, pointing at the exhibited devices, told us that they have a battery with same capacity as the iPhone's.

Answering our other questions it turned out that chip is to be included primarily in Windows Mobile based devices, but later it will be able to cooperate with Symbian and Android based mobile devices. Regarding the iPhone they told us that there always were and always will be gossips and that they don't know of such a kind of possible cooperation between nVidia and Apple, or at least they don't want to inform us about it.
According to nVidia the new APX2500 chip could appear in mobile phones next year, although mass production starts this April, but manufacturers need some more time to implement the chip and nVidia gives any possible support for them.
