The child of Motorola and Kodak, ZN5, seems to have some pretty impressive qualities in photography, or at least that's what the RAW recording capabilities suggest, as this uncompressed file format has mostly been available in semi-pro cameras only until now. The 5 megapixel autofocus Kodak camera, the Xenon flash and the autofocus flash are all just like in real cameras. Kodak really gave its best: digital (4:3) and conventional (3:2) ratios are both supported and there is a 500 MHz CPU in there to do the job.
The first couple of test pics are right here, but keep in mind that these were made with a sample, that is still heavily under development. The success of the phone, that is set for launch in mid-June at the Communic Asia expo, is questionable even in spite of its photography merits. The screen with a 2.4" diagonal, stereo Bluetooth, 3.5 mm headset jack and the memory expandability (up to 4GB) are all swell, but this piece of telecom will have no 3G or HSDPA, which is a serious setback. Anyway, click on the test photos below to see them at full resolution (2560 x 1920). We can only hope that the final edition won't be good of making only such burnt, painting-like pictures. We'll see soon.
