There will be no Android-based Sony Ericsson

Hirdetés

After announcing the first Google Android phone Qualcomm has reported that many of their partners are interested in making use of the new platform. Regarded to this there have been some new reports stating that Sony Ericsson is also thinking about this. Mats Lindoff, CTO at Sony Ericsson, has reported at their event in Copenhagen that their company has indeed been analyzing Google's open platform, but they have serious reservations about it so the release of such a device is not expected in the near future. The reason is very simple: the Android platform is evidently about Google serices, so its use means giving up on all services and the Japanese-Swedish manufacturer would rather offer their own solutions.

Lindoff has also told that they have decided to use the Windows Mobile platform in the Xperia family in order to conquer the American market, but it's of course possible that later on they will come up with Symbian-based solutions. Lindoff has been very careful about reporting about the company's business strategy and when mentioning the BlackBerry platform he has only told that the popularity of RIM's solution is much lower than the demand for the Symbian operating system that has 104 million sales yearly. Sony Ericsson of course didn't report officially on the successor of Xperia, but based on the small hints one could think that the successor will also be based on Windows Mobile instead of Symbian. This seems a logical step as the Symbian system is about to be changed radically, due to the launch of the unified platform.
