A mobile phone with no charger? The idea might seem strange at first, but it's still a logical thing. The Finnish manufacturer has been using the same charger connector for a long time, so faithful users get an unnecessary charger when buying a new phone, even more if they give the old phones back. Manufacturing and destroying unnecessary parts has a negative effect on the environment, so in order to avoid it Nokia N79 Eco can be purchased exclusively in online stores, without a charger, it comes in a smaller package so the customers can use the charger of their previous phone. The lack of the charger won't mean a cheaper package, as in England the black N79 Eco costs 319 GBP, just like its predecessor, but 4 pounds from its price are transferred to WWF as support. The smaller package might first seem to have no serious effect on environment protection, but if we consider Nokia's huge sales we get a different picture. When the Finnish giant started to produce smaller packages in 2007, the shipping of the 250 million phones meant 5,000 truck shipments less, which, besides being a smaller load on the environment, saved about 100 million euros. In 2007 the Finnish giant saved 100,000 cubic meters of water and 15,000 tons of packaging material, which means that about 55,000 trees less have been cut.
