    1. Go into Device Manager, show hidden devices and remove the ATI PCI Express 3GIO driver from System devices, ticking the box to delete the files. The system may freeze at this point but you can use the power switch to shut it down.

    2. Disconnect all networking and power up the computer (this is important to prevent the driver from being picked up by Windows Updates).

    3. Allow the graphics and other drivers to fix themselves. It will need another restart afterwards.

    4. Reconnect networking and perform any final driver updates required.

    The Intel graphics driver will now be happy and you can successfully turn aero on.
