"people" is originally singular - meaning "nép" - so your first sentence is also correct as words that refer to a group of people may be used as either singular or plural subjects.

Nem szép dolog azt gondolni az amerikaiakról, hogy nem tudnak/szoktak választékosan fogalmazni.
Biztos én mozogtam eddig "rossz" körökben, de az én amerikai ismerőseim 90%-a választékosan, kimondottan szépen beszél angolul, és az emberi sztereotípiáknak sem felelnek meg (gondolok itt arra, hogy sok magyar butának és tájékozatlannak hiszi/tartja őket).

I've read the firs five of the series in Hungarian, and I didn't want to wait for the translation of the 6th. So I bought that one, and started to read. Within 6 days I finished it. I found H. Potter easy to read. The Hungarian translation is fairly good, but in English it's much better.

i was talking about the linguistic aspect. I don't think there is a "standard language" just a language what people speak and it inevitably undergoes major changes time after time. there was a bulgarian woman visiting our university two weeks ago and she gave a lecture on the "languages of the USA" and i'm not mistaken there are like 314 languages currently present in the US... i think slang is just an instrument that is necessary to form and revolutionize the language. it's not necessarily a bad thing. i feel like i am surrounded by old fashioned, conservative British gentlemen here
i don't know how many of you ever visited the US but states like Florida have like 50% latin american population. many of them does not even speak english so you can't afford to just stick to the old fashioned "standard language"

I'd like to buy the H. Potter book series, because I have got only the first one, but the others are too expensive for me now. The Philosopher's Stone is much better in English than in Hungarian, I loved it.

What about the second part of my last message? (the difference between those things...)
Sometimes I don't even realise that I'm using slang (e.g.: gonna, gotta), but there are a lot of expressions which are used by people. When I say slang, I don't talk about the slang used by black people. I was watching a video featuring a black guy and every second word was "you know" and I was like "what the hell?".
In cases like that, I cannot stop thinking about raping a beautiful language. (It's like when Hungarians say 'lájk' instead of 'szeret, kedvel'. In a lot of cases, people don't even know what that word means.
)Does any of you agree with me?

Meglátásom szerint hasznosabb a "rendes" nyelvet tanulni, mint a szlenget. A kérdés az volt, érdemes-e. Nem, összességében nem érdemes, ha nem sokat fogsz mozogni anyanyelviek körében. Ha fogsz, akkor nem árt, de akkor sem az az első.

Csak azert erdekelt, mert ugy tanultam, hogy az egyszeru multat a multban lejatszodo cselekvesekre es tortenelmi tenyekre hasznalom, aminek nincs aktualitasa a jelenre. Van egy ilyen angol marketinges kifejezés, hogy "lead". Ezt hogy lehetne lefordítani értelmesen, röviden magyarra? Ezek kb. a lehetséges/érdeklődők/ügyfelek, csak nem tudom, a szakma milyen szót használhat rá? (kb. jelentése sok szóval: új, lehetséges üzleti ügyfél. De mi lehet 1 szóval?)
