The size of internal memory in phones might be even 8 or 16 GB for high-end handsets, while even 32 GB might be possible for next year. A fast access method for such a large quantity of data seems a real challenge, as the use of a fast memory chip is not enough, but a highly optimized software is also required. Samsung's engineers have created a much faster driver and file system for their OneNAND, Flex-OneNAND and moviNAND internal memories. The new driver is available for the most frequently used Windows Mobile (CE), Symbian, Linux and RTOS (Real-Time Operating System) systems too. Young Joon Choi, VP of Samsung's memory department has emphasized that the use of the new driver and the file system will greatly speed up both booting and data searching and data access processes, which is highly important for devices that have increasingly complex galleries and multimedia features.
